Greenskin Wars - The Iron Orcs

The fabulous range "Greenskin Wars" from Diego Serrate will know new reinforcements, there are only a few days to participate in the current kickstarter.

Among the new models, the monstrous Iron Orcs, that I had the privilege and pleasure to paint.

As you can see, they are pretty big!

I give you here some recipes of painting, for lack of a true step by step, with however some pictures of stages.

SKIN
- Base : Knarlock green
- AP wash strong tone
- 1st highlight : base + VGC visquous green
- 2nd highlight : adding one or two times VMC flat flesh
- 3rd highlight : adding VGC bone
- final highlight with pure VGC bone
- GW red wash in the recesses

For those with darker skin, I just started from the same base by adding black and making the highlights sharper by retaining the flat flesh blends.

TEETH
- Base : VMC English uniform
- 1st and 2nd highlight by adding VGC bone
- final highlight with pure white

Transitions can be smoothed with AP washes.

FUR (on the boots)
- Base : VGC Dark grey
- 1st and 2nd highlight by adding VGC wolf grey
- final highlight with pure white
- Some AP washes (dark and strong tones) for the recesses

ORANGE LEATHER
-Base : VGC vermin brown
- AP strong tone wash
- 1st and 2nd highlight by adding VGC bone
- final highlight with pure VGC bone

Transitions can be smoothed with VMCAir Acajou-Panzer WWII wash.

YELLOW LEATHER
-Base : VGC cobra leather
- AP strong tone wash
- 1st and 2nd highlight by adding VGC bone
- final highlight with pure VGC bone

MAT LEATHER
-Base : VMC mat brown
- AP strong tone wash
- Two highlights by adding VMC brown leather to the base
- Then one or two more highlights by adding VGC bone
- final highlight with pure VGC bone

Here, the three types of leather.

STEEL
- Base : VGCAir Steel
- 2 times AP strong tone wash
- VGC Beasty brown wash for the rust
- 2nd wash by adding VMCAir Acajou-Panzer WWII
- Highlight with the base

BRONZE
- Base : VMC bronze
- 2 times AP strong tone wash
- Higlights with GW old shining gold, adding it to the base or pure.

COPPER
- Base : a very, very old GW copper !
- 2 times AP strong tone wash
- Highlights by adding VGCAir Steel

Vert-de-gris
-VGC carapace green wash
- 2nd wash by adding VGC bone

There, you can see the metal parts before the highlights.

Again, do not forget that AP washes are perfect for softening transitions, dark, strong or soft tone depending on the colors.

I can only advise you greatly these miniatures, the sculpture is just beautiful !

A completed archers unit

I posted photos of the standard bearer and troopers, but now it's done !

24 of them. I've got 24 more already painted some time ago, in a slighty different style. Pictures will follow.

As always, a mixture of several brands, old and new. I think they mix great !

Stickas

Goblins Stickas, I've got a big bunch of them, from Citadel, Marauder, Heartbreaker...

...And from Greenskin Wars, producing new miniatures, most of the range is sculpted by Kev Adams, as you already know surely. There's a new project going on Kickstarter :

It's just, a little CRUSH

Another masterpiece from the Goblin Master, the Skull Crusher ! It is a very powerful and fearsome war machine, the true treasure of the Broken Nose Tribe.

Once again, I did some pretty simple bases, maybe I'll add some bushes later.

I tried to stick to the original scheme for the trebuchet, with worn metal and aging wood. Really fun to paint, with all those twisted faces. Easy to imagine them talking to the crew !

Spit out the lead

One of my favorites, the iconic Lead Belcher ! An emblematic weapon of the infamous broken nose tribe.
Had a great time painting this great machine and the crew.

The original version, designed and painted by Kevin Adams, is a true piece of art :
